Maverick filmmaker T. Rajendar returns to acting after a gap of seven years with KV Anand’s Vijay Sethupathi-starrer Kavan, which is produced by AGS Entertainment. The multi-tasking filmmaker says that he refused thrice when KV approached him for the film!
“I admire KV Anand for his cinematography as well as his distinct choice of scripts. He always believes that the subject of the film is the hero. His self-confidence amazes me. When he came to meet me, I was very hesitant and turned down the offer politely — not once but thrice. I am not a forthcoming person and I cannot mingle with everyone easily. But he wouldn’t budge. Finally, KV’s words touched me and I agreed. He promised me, saying, ‘I will give you full freedom and will see to it that the character is made and treated in such a way that it would never damage your real-life image.’”
Sethupathi, on his part, admitted that he is a great fan of TR and was actually waiting for him to join the sets. “TR’s energy levels are amazing. He improvises a lot on the sets, but does only what the captain of the ship approves.” Kavan is a significant film in his career, he adds.
Madonna Sebastian who plays Vijay’s pair in Kavan said, “Vijay Sethupathi was a caring co-star. It was a good learning experience, working in Kavan and I loved the wonderful journey.”
