I want to stand out: Ritika Singh

Talking about her character in Vanangamudi, Ritika says, “I play a homely and sweet character, but there are many layers to it as well.â€

Ritika Singh, who became a household name, thanks to her stellar performance in last year’s Irudhi Suttru, is now a part of films like Shivalinga with Lawrence and Vanangamudi with Arvind Swami. The young actress talks to DC about her recent run...

“Shivalinga was a tough project — I did my own stunts in the film. I actually enjoyed it, as I play a character with many layers. It was challenging to switch between the many phases of the character.”

She admits that it was quite tough to adapt to the film’s environment and crew initially. — “Vasu sir acts out the whole scene and all you have to do try and imitate him.”

Prod her about the dance portions and Ritika is quick to answer — “The dance was just a headache. I did so many rehearsals, from the wee hours of the morning to late in the night. I even injured my leg. But I wouldn’t complain, because dancing is so close to Lawrence sir and it is a tough task even for an accomplished dancer.”

Talking about her character in Vanangamudi, Ritika says, “I play a homely and sweet character, but there are many layers to it as well.”

Being an outsider to cinema, Ritika has done quite well in fitting into the industry. “I switched between professions that are like chalk and cheese. It feels otherworldly to wear heels and makeup. Why fit in, when you can stand out?” she adds.
