Film council office sealed as spat gets ugly

A section of producers who had demanded Vishal's resignation had locked the council office on Wednesday.

Chennai: The spat among members of the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council got uglier on Thursday with the Council's office premises in T.Nagar were sealed by Revenue Department official Ramkumar even as actor and producer Vishal, head of the council, was detained by the police and later let off.

Caught in a dispute between TFPC's top officials and a section of producers who are also members of the council, the film council matter was referred to the revenue department, which was asked to inspect the premises and file a report to the registrar of societies.

A section of producers who had demanded Vishal's resignation had locked the council office on Wednesday. Vishal, who tried to break open the lock and enter the building, was detained by the police and then let off on Thursday evening. The actor drove straight to the TFPC office on Anna Salai and held discussions with his peers like SR Prabhu, Kathiresan, SS Durairaj, Parthiban, Manojkumar regarding their further course of action.

Vishal also took to his twitter handle to post, "Finally out after 8 hours of illegal detention. Suffering for no fault of mine, very disturbed that I was not let to enter my own office. No action against people who illegally locked the gates and doors of the same office. Totally unfair! I believe in our judicial system and I hope I will get justice for what's happened today."

Opposed to Vishal are a number of producers headed by JK Ritesh and AL Alagappan. They claim that funds are missing from the council and that elections have not been held.
