Manimaran to direct Samuthirakani
Director Manimaran, who has made content-oriented films like Udhayam NH4, Poriyalan and Pugazh to his credit, has now finalised his next flick. His fourth directorial venture titled Sanga Thalaivan will feature Samuthirakani in the lead role, with Karunas in a pivotal character. Speaking to DC, Manimaran says, “The story, which is set in the areas of Salem, Erode and Tirupur, will focus on the lives of handloom weavers and the struggles they face in the current situation. The weavers have their separate union and Samuthirakani essays the role of a union leader in the movie. Director Vetri Maaran will be producing this venture.”
The director also added that Sanga Thalaivan is based on a novel. “We are in the process of obtaining the rights. Once we are done with it, we’ll announce it. Shooting of the movie will commence on November 15. We have also held talks with actress Iniya, who has agreed in principle. She’d be signing the agreement soon enough,” he adds. The team is also in the process of finalising the rest of the cast and crew. Velraj handles the cinematography while Venkatesh of Visaranai fame will handle the editing of the movie.
