Sundeep Kishan is back in K'town!
Actor Sundeep Kishan, who made his entry with Yaaruda Mahesh, is back for good. Speaking to DC about his re-launch with Mayavan, he says, “I am glad to be back in Tamil because this is where I lived all my life. I worked as Gautham Menon’s assistant director and I did not do any films after Yaaruda Mahesh because I want to be known for my credibility For me, quality matters over quantity.”
Sundeep admits that the Yaaruda Mahesh team hoped for a better response since their intention was clear-cut since the beginning. “Not every film can reach out to everyone, but we did reach out to the youngsters who were our target audience. When I went to an award function at Malaysia, people yelled out Yaaruda Mahesh and I felt happy,” he added.
Talking about his current film Mayavan, the actor added that he and CV Kumar have had a long-standing friendship and wanted to collaborate for a film; but it never materialised. “I am more than excited to be a part of CV Kumar’s debut directorial. When we look back, I will be known as his first hero,” he says.
Mayavan is an investigative film with an element of science fiction. Sundeep beefed up to suit the role of Kumaran, a cop. In terms of characterisation, CV Kumar made sure that Kumaran stays grounded and relatable.
Sundeep is pitted against Daniel Balaji and Jackie Shroff in the film. He stated, “I’ve worked with Daniel Balaji when I was an assistant director and it was nostalgic. With Jackie, he was more like a buddy and it was a learning experience.” The actor revealed that he had fun on the sets by playing pranks on his co-star Lavanya while shooting a montage song.
Elated about his upcoming films, Mayavan and Maanagaram, Sundeep signs off saying, “Beyond commercial success, I can be extremely proud of these two films in terms of content.”
