Vanamagan is an honest attempt by Vijay: Jayam Ravi

...says Ravi about the risk that the director took for his upcoming film.

Actor Jayam Ravi, who plays a tribal in his forthcoming flick, Vanamagan, directed and produced by Vijay, is confident that the effort and hard work that has gone into the film, will make it a sure hit at the box office. “It is an honest attempt by director Vijay. It is my dad, editor Mohan, who used to take the risk of spending more than the budget needed for my film. And now, it is heart-warming to see that Vijay has done the same for Vanamagan. I want to reciprocate in some way — in case the film fails, I will work free of cost for Vijay in his next,” Ravi starts his conversation.

Staying true to his witty nature, he quickly adds, “May be on a profit sharing basis. I also have a family to run.”

The Romeo Juliet star says that he and Vijay have been planning to collaborate for the past eight years. “Vijay warned me that it is going to be really tough even before narrating the script. I loved the one-liner and didn’t realise that it would be physically and mentally taxing till I landed in the dense forests of Thailand and Vietnam. The highlight sequence is an action block with a real tiger. Selva master has composed some of the toughest and mind-blowing stunt sequences,” quips Ravi.

On his preparations, he says, “I have shed so many kilos and toned down my body. I watched several documentaries on tribals and interacted with some of the civilised tribal communities in Andamans. I loved their innocence and their natural way of living and tried to bring in the same.”

Heaping praises on his co-star, Ravi shares, “ Sayyeshaa, who is a great dancer, has got a meaty role in Vanamagan, and has pulled it off very well.”
