Sumathi Swaminathan: From Dallas to Kollywood

The dusky actress reveals she is also part of a movie called Fear where she shares screen space with Sunu Lakshmi of Aramm fame.

No one can forget the face of the actress who performed in the crucial climax song ‘Neeyum Bommai Naanum Bommai’ from the hit film Moodar Koodam, a black comedy directed by Naveen.

Sumathi Swaminathan from Dallas who came to acting quite by accident was that face. The software professional and theatre personality, who is currently in the city, says, “I took a break from work and came to my native Kovai for holidays. Naveen is my friend. And he was adamant that I do the particular character and though I was not prepared, the passion for acting made me agree.”

Sumathi says she was selected as 'Miss Smile' at a beauty pageant, but ironically, Naveen has offered her a morose role without a single smile in his next venture. “It is a gritty character and she has to always look stiff and tough. It is a solid role.”

The dusky actress reveals she is also part of a movie called Fear where she shares screen space with Sunu Lakshmi of Aramm fame. “Irrespective of small or big, I want to perform in characters with substance. And I can speak good Tamil and also dub for myself” she says in signing off with a smile.
