Here comes a female gangster

Film features a lady drug don.

Several gangster movies have been shot in Tamil cinema like Billa, Nayagan, Kabali, Aaranyakandam and Mankatha. All of them had matinee idols like Rajini, Kamal and Ajith as the protagonist. And for the first time a film on a lady gangster titled Gangs of Madras is being made. Wielding the megaphone will be none other than the gen-next producer CV Kumar, who has bankrolled critically acclaimed out-of-the-box themed films including Pizza, Soodhu Kavvum and Mundasupatti.

The movie is set against the backdrop of drug mafia and, talking to DC, Kumar reveals that a real life lady don based in Chennai had inspired the film. Sai Priyanaka Ruth, a finalist in a reality show, is playing the lead.

“After my debut in direction in the sci-fi film Maayavan, I waited for an unusual script for my second venture. A report in a newspaper about how Chennai is becoming a hub for narcotics in south India was the inspiration for this movie. I came across a woman in the scheme of things, which I felt was something new. I decided to make a film with this in mind and improvised adding my own imagination to it,” he said.

“Gangs of Madras is the story of a girl who accidentally gets caught in a gangster group and how later it becomes her way of life. I did a lot of research before embarking on my journey. It is an action revenge drama shot stylishly and will be a new experience for the audiences,” he said.

Heaping praises on Sai Priyanka he says, “It is an action role for her and she was fearless in giving a wonderful performance. Be it her body language or the facial expressions, she has nailed the character. And she did all the risky stunts by herself without a body double.”

Ashok, recently seen in Chithiram Pesudhadi 2, is playing a crucial role. Velu Prabhakaran, Daniel Balaji, ‘Aadukalam’ Naren and Bhagavathi Perumal are in the supporting cast. It has songs by Hari Dafusia and BGM by Shyamalangan under the supervision of ace composer Santhosh Narayanan.
