Nadigar Sangam calls for severe punishment
Nadigar Sangam, aka South Indian Artistes Association, has strongly condemned the attack case against one of the leading actresses in the south, and a member of the Nadigar Sangam, who was waylaid and molested in Ernakulam recently.
Speaking to us, Vishal and others say, “We have sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Kerala, to AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes) and the police chief and have urged them to speed up the investigation and punish the culprits in a severe manner. Our association members were shocked to learn about this unruly behaviour and the violent attitude of her own driver and his associates.”
Elaborating on the issue, Vishal adds, “Considering the sensitive nature of the matter, when usually people try to hide or not speak about it, I respect and appreciate how she has braved the situation and has come out in the open to talk about it. My heart goes out to the actress. We stand by her. We have been hearing about child abuse cases and it is really disturbing. We as actors also plan to do something to create awareness on the issue.”
Delving into the matter, Ponvannan says, “There is no safety and security even for a popular woman celebrity in our state and country. Imagine the situation for an ordinary person. We will also discuss this with the Tamil Film Producers Council and take necessary measures to ensure safety to artistes and others.”
The actress has done Tamil films including Chithiram Pesudhadi, Veyil, Arya, Rameswaram, Jayamkondan, etc.
Meanwhile several actors like Trisha, Kalidas Jayaram, Amala Paul, and Prithiviraj among others, lent support to the actress via social media.
