Actor brothers Suriya and Karthi were about the first to raise their hand to contribute towards relief measures for people in the delta and coastal districts of TN affected by Cyclonic storm Gaja by donating Rs 50 lakhs for the cause. The fan clubs of the stars have gone a step ahead and chipped in with their mite.
About 50 farmer families who live in the remote village Thanda Kulatthukarai, in Tanjore district lost their dwellings during the Gaja fiasco. Suriya and Karthi fans, under the guidance of Paramu who heads the welfare associations, had agreed to construct 15 houses for them at a cost of '10 lakhs each then. They have finished two of them and celebrated Pongal along with the villagers.
