Nadigar Sangam requests Please quit PETA'
Kollywood, including Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan, came together for the cause ‘Support Jallikattu’, and sat on a silent fast protest on Friday.
The media was not allowed to cover the protest, as the film fraternity members stated that they didn’t want to hog the limelight, considering the youth of Tamil Nadu, who raised their voice for the cause in an unprecedented way.
Organised by Nadigar Sangam, there were no speeches and most honchos of the association, like Nasser, Karthi, and Ponvannan, were present at the venue at 8 am. A surprise visitor was Ajith Kumar — who is usually not spotted in similar events — arrived early and sat through the fast till 5 pm. Trisha, who has been facing the wrath of jallikattu ban protestors, was the next to arrive and sat almost till the end.
Despite his leg pain, Kamal made it to the venue and was seen chatting with Rajinikanth. Vishal, who had returned from Delhi, headed straight from the airport to the venue.
Those who actively participated include Vikram, Prabhu, Bhagyaraj, Sivakumar, Sathyaraj, Suriya, Parthiepan, Dhanush, Jayam Ravi, Jiiva, Vikram Prabhu, Sivakarthikeyan, Santhanam, Varalaxmi, Kovai Sarala, Sangeetha, Simran, Rohini, Rekha, and Latha along with a host of junior artistes.
Biggies who were conspicuous by their absence were Vijay, Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Hansika, Samantha, Tamannaah and Kajal Agarwal.
On a concluding note, Ponvannan said, “To our knowledge none of the actors and actresses are members of PETA; even if they are associated with it, keeping in mind the people’s sentiments, we request them to leave the organisation.”
