My dad’s influence can be seen in my film: Sanjay

Reba Monica John and Digangana Suryavanshi play the lead girls in what is said to be the first astro-comedy film in Tamil cinema.

Harish Kalyan’s chocolate boy character is designed after yesteryear Karthik role in Varusham 16. Actor Sanjay Bharathi, son of ace actor and filmmaker Santhana Bharathi, who debuts as director with the film Dhanusu Raasi Neyargale, revealed this.

Reba Monica John and Digangana Suryavanshi play the lead girls in what is said to be the first astro-comedy film in Tamil cinema. It is interesting that one of the girl’s onscreen names is KR Vijaya, a popular yesteryear heroine. “There’s no specific reason for keeping KR Vijaya, it is just to steer clear of clichéd names,” quips Sanjay.

“The characterisation of hero Arjun was based on the traits of people having Dhanusu Raasi. The protagonist happens to be very much focused with his dreams and wants to achieve at any cost and so happens to be heroine with her own ideologies. Harish Kalyan will be seen playing the role of the boy next door. During my childhood days, I would admire Karthik sir as a cute chocolate boy as in Varusham 16. I wanted to project Harish Kalyan in similar shade. The first half of this film will be in my style and second half has influences of my father Santhana Bharathi,” he explains.

Produced by Gokulam Movies, DRN has music by Ghibran.
