Nayanthara is one actress who has risen in the ranks of K’town on her own terms. She’s been public about her relationships and breakups. Even so, her attitude may have only added to the mystery behind the numero uno heroine of Kollywood.
Sparse appearances, ‘No-interviews’ policy and always shunning celeb company for family and boyfriend Vignesh Shivn, Nayan is known to have etched her own space. But unlike any other heroine of her generation, Nayan, we are told, has a huge say in also picking the designer and stylist for the film. Most actresses can suggest but big producers and directors would usually veto the expensive lot and opt for the ones they are comfortable with.
In the past, this has been said to be the reason for a top actress being dropped from a film because she had suggested a team of stylists and designers that would be setting the production house back by nearly ?1 crore. Rajinikanth is the only Superstar who gets to pick his designer, like he did with Manish Malhotra for Sivaji. And now, the honour has been bestowed on Nayan, true to her form as ‘Lady Superstar’
If cine-buzz is to be believed, Nayan’s designer Chaitanya Rao, who has been signed up for her upcoming films, has already begun his costume hunt. Sources say her look is very simple and serious and Chaitanya is travelling the length and breadth of India, working with weavers and handloom designers to source materials.
Chaitanya says, “I can’t confirm or deny anything. All I can say is Nayanthara is a very diligent actor who takes every aspect of the film seriously. I have worked with her in the past, the best part about her is she gives me the time for discussions, fittings and is appreciative of design. She understands fabrics, camera and lighting well. I have learnt a few things from her about working with drapes of all kinds and how she also immaculately matches her makeup.”
