Lingusamy's title dilemmas

Lingusamy recalled how he chose the same title for his debut venture in 2001.

At the promo event of Thiruppathisami Kudumbam directed by Suresh of Arasu fame, director Lingusamy recalled how he chose the same title for his debut venture in 2001, which was later changed to Anandham. “When I initially wrote the script for Anandham, I had a different producer and we kept the title Thiruppathisami Kudumbam. Later, I didn’t feel the need to add the Tamil word kudumbam (family) in the title. Then, it changed hands and RB Choudhary stepped in as the producer; the title also underwent transformation as Aanandham Vilayaadum Veedu! But when we tried registering the title, it was already booked by Cheran. Being my first film and in a sentiment driven industry, several changes in the title gave me jitters,” he revealed.

But, when they met Cheran’s Aanandham Vilayaadum Veedu producer, he was not willing to give away title, Lingusamy added. However, during one of those discussion sessions, Lingusamy saw the word ‘aanandham’ (the first part of the title) on his desk with other words hidden under a notebook.

“Then it struck me to go with the title Aanandham only. To my surprise, I found that Mani Ratnam had registered it long back — but had forgotten to renew it. It had lapsed the previous day and I rushed to register it!” he said, gleefully. However, he was happy that title of Thiruppathisami Kudumbam had gone to the right hands — as one of the producers of the film Baburaja — was the one who first took him to RB Choudhary. “I am happy for Baburaja who is introducing his two sons and they seem immensely talented,” he concluded.
