Much ado over 5 am shows

Actors Vishnu Vishal and RJ Balaji were involved in ugly spat over early shows before patching up.

A tweet by actor Vishnu Vishal regarding screening of 5 am special shows on the day of a film's release saying they are losing their value and have become more of a gimmick became a hot topic. The tweet did not go down well with comedian turned hero RJ Balaji whose political satire film LKG, slated for February 22 release, is getting a morning 5 am special show.

Such shows are normally associated with movies of big stars like Rajini, Kamal, Vijay and Ajith with a huge fan following. But in the present scenario, these early morning shows are being extended even to small films like Oviya's 90 ML and RJ Balaji's LKG, and perhaps Vishnu was taking a dig at these films.

The two actors were engaged in a war of words on social media and the open spat went viral quickly. With the supporters and followers of the two actors making scathing remarks against each other. However, the fight, which started off from Monday night and continued till Tuesday afternoon, somewhat conveniently ended with both actors seemingly ironing out their differences and bringing a peaceful end to the issue.

Vishnu Vishal had first posted a tweet which read, “5 am show losing its value:)it’s becoming a gimmick: (and this was followed by a series of posts. “I’m really happy for all small to medium budget movies gettin mornin 5am shows...really great for cinema..but am not happy abt certain people misusing n misguiding misguiding public all the time in the name of constructive criticism.”

Using the hashtag #5amShowForLKG, RJ Balaji took to his social media handle and gave a reply, posting, “Having seen the 5 am shows of my favourite stars until recently, Having one for LKG now feels unreal. Never imagined this to happen. Blessed.” He added, “Even I thought this 5 am show for LKG is a gimmick, appuram theatre owner kitta direct ah kettu confirm pannikittane... We didn’t get a recommendation seat but a MERIT seat. Now put this to rest and rest well. #RespectOthersWorkYoullGetUrs.

To prove his point Balaji even posted a what’sapp conversation between him and someone reportedly connected with the theatre (the names are hidden) who had vouched that LKG has been given 5 am show on its merit and demand.

Vishnu was, perhaps, in no mood to listen. He continuously tweeted, “First learn to respect ppl around u..i dunno if u rembr wat u did before doin movies n how much u respctd actors bak then:) learn to giv credit to evryones hard work n not just urs..im gettin my due..im happy im not using people's sentiments time n again to get success:)#rspctall”

In his next he said, “Guys i just wantd to show u all the reaction...thats all..n its clear n evident to all..:) been wanting to show d true side for a long time now:) 'unukku vandha raththam, yenuku vandha thakkali chutney aa??' my twitr frnds who knw me knw i wont talk unnecessarily :)#restupall”.

He criticised Balaji saying he had attained fame through personal criticism. “When u knw to criticise whole heartedly irrespecitve of the hardwork others hav put in and irrrspcrive of knwin wat d truth is, learn to accept criticism whole heartedly as well...its not just u whoz workin hard..infact ur route to fame is ‘personal criticism route’.

But both actors deleted their conversations after reaching a compromise on the subject.

While Balaji said, “LKG. Spoke to Vishu Vishal. What happened in the morning was impulsive from both sides. We sorted out the difference of opinion. I wish him nothing but the best. #Peaceout.” Vishnu Vishal retweeted saying, “LKG. Yes sortd guys..so #peaceoutall :) #argumentswithinfamily ...wishin u d best for #LKG.”
