It was sort of a reunion for many yesteryear heroines who had acted alongside legendary star MGR. The occasion was the launch of animated film Kizhakku Africavil Raju, a sequel to the latter's 1973 hit Ulagam Suttrum Vaaliban, which was directed and produced by MGR. Rajashree, Sowcar Janaki, Kanchana, Vennira Aadai Nirmala, Latha (heroine of USV), MN Rajam, Sachchu, Sheela, Jayamalini, Kutty Padmini, Sangeetha and others were seen sharing stories recalling their golden period in Tamil cinema.
The late MGR had announced this sequel soon after Ulagam's mammoth success but since he had then entered into active politics and later became the chief minister, he could not pursue his plans. And now, when we are celebrating the iconic actor's centenary celebrations, Isari Ganesh, son of late Isari Velan, a close MGR aide, is making the leader’s dream come true by doing the flick in animation format. Prabhu Deva also joins him in production.
