I don't have a role model: Vadivelu

...says Vadivelu, who opens up about his film journey

Kaththi Sandai marks the return of ‘Comedy King’ Vadivelu in a full-fledged humour role. “At a time when people are going through turbulent times due to various reasons including cyclone Vardah, we thought it would be appropriate to release the comedy caper on December 23, so as to relieve their tension and help them laugh,” revealed Vishal.

Directed by Suraaj, the film has Tamannaah romancing Vishal for the first time and two comedians, Vadivelu and Soori in lead roles. “KS is a laugh riot and has loads of fun and frolic. I am teaming up with Vadivelu sir after 10 years. His various looks are the highlight of the movie. Soori never had any ego problems because of the presence of Vadivelu sir in the flick. In fact, he was happy to be part of the film,” the Sandakozhi actor added.

When asked if Vadivelu’s character is crafted keeping the famous psychiatrist Mathrubootham (known for his knowledge on sex education) in mind, he says, “Oh no, his area is different (laughs). I play Dr Bhootri, a psychiatrist and my encounters with Vishal on-screen have come out very well. When Suraaj narrated the script, I loved it and gave my instant nod. We share a good rapport as I have worked in his earlier ventures.”

The Eli actor said no to more than 30 scripts. “I did turn down many offers, not because of any other reason, but because the script had limited scope for me to perform. Rajinikanth’s Lingaa was offered to me first. But, it had hardly four to five scenes for me in the second half which I felt is not my cup of tea,” he clarifies.

Vadivelu says that he doesn’t have aspirations to become an icon like veteran comedian NSK. “With all humility, I don’t have a role model. My only aim is to make people laugh till the time I am in cinema.”

Attributing hard work as the reason for his success, he says, “I know social media is full of my memes with my comedy scenes. I always think about elevating every scene. Perseverance and hard work will automatically bring success to anyone”. Vadivelu also spilled the beans that he is working on the sequel of Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikesi in director Shankar’s production.
