Leon James composes new age folk numbers
Just three films old, Leon James manages to arouse curiosity among music lovers with his compositions. Even though he composed two songs for Kanchana 2, Leon doesn’t consider it an album. Ko 2 catapulted him to a different league and with the recently released album of Kavalai Vendam, he has outdone himself.
Speaking about Kavalai Vendam’s success, Leon says, “I am so excited by the reception. I worked on this album for 10 months and the comments that I am receiving motivates me to come up with better stuff in the future. “
Lyricist Ko Sesha has worked on all the four songs in the album. “He was my schoolmate, so it was like two friends jamming for an album. This is a special project and I wanted to work in a comfortable environment. Since the album is intense, I chose Sesha and he came up with simple lyrics that were straight from the heart.”
Leon believes in re-working the songs even if the director approves of it — “When the director gives a nod, I start thinking about how to better the song, production wise with embellishments. I look for ways to improve every song,” he quips.
About his next film Veera, he reveals, “I make sure that all my films have different sounds in them. Since Veera is set in the North Madras backdrop, you can expect new-age kuthu and mass songs.”
