More than a role model

It seems Kollywood stars are setting examples on how to celebrate Father's Day in quirky ways. Read to know more...

Sibiraj’s special gift

Sibi says, “However clichéd it might sound, my appa is my biggest role model — his real-life character is similar to the role he played in Raja Rani. Though we don’t need a particular day to show our love for our dads, as a family, we usually go out together for lunch during special occasions. I always gift my dad something on this day; this year, I will be presenting him a nice jacket, which I purchased in Australia. He always loves to go to places like Conoor for vacations. That’s the reason why I decided to gift this!”

Soundarya’s I-tune tribute

Soundarya, daughter of Superstar Rajinikanth, always says that appa means the world to her and she is truly blessed to be his daughter. “I have no words to express the love and respect I have for my father. His caring nature is one of his traits I adore. Even when he is very busy, he makes time for the family and ensures to spend quality time with us,” Soundarya told us in an earlier interview. This year, she has planned something different and quirky to pay a tribute for her dad.

She handpicked 24 of her favorite tracks from his blockbusters including Baasha, Johny, her directorial Kochadaiyaan, Uzhaippali, Priya, Enthiran, Nallavanukku Nallavan among others and uploaded the playlist on iTunes! “Growing up, I realised my dad was not just a Superstar on screen — but was, and is, more of one, off it!” she smiles.

Sonam’s usual ritual

I’ve not celebrated Father’s day with my dad for years! But, to make it up, I send a nice, long message to him on this occasion. Apart from this, I ask my mom to make some special dish for my dad on my behalf. Even this time, I’m planning to do the same,” exclaims Sonam Bajwa.

All 365 days are Father’s Day

National award-winning actor and popular filmmaker Samudhrakani, who is gearing up with his next directorial venture titled Appa (Father), says, “Why should one day be earmarked for fathers? As far as I am concerned, all 365 days in a year should be celebrated as Father’s Day! Though I lost my dad when I was hardly 15, my film Appa, is actually about my interactions with my dad. He was from a village called Setthur and he used to treat everyone equally. He would always say, ‘Earn people’. And it is one of the things, which I learnt from my dad. Now, I’m imparting all the lessons my dad taught me, to my children. I miss him a lot, and my film Appa is dedicated to my father.”

As a promo video for his film, Kani has roped in several popular celebrities to speak about their beloved fathers and how they inspired the former, in a short titled En Appa.
