Five directors join the climax of Chennai 28 sequel

The film is slated to release early next year.

Director Venkat Prabhu has roped in five of his former assistants to shoot the climax sequence of Chennai 28 II Innings, which will be a continuation of the previous film’s storyline. The five filmmakers include Chandru (Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham), Saravana Rajan (Vadacurry), Sripathy Rangasamy (Kanimozhi), VR Nagendran (Vemel-starrer Kaaval) and Venkatesan R (Nalanum Nandhiniyum).

Interestingly, these independent filmmakers have come on board, thanks to Venkat’s request. Saravana Rajan tells DC, “It has been 11 days since we came to Theni, where we’re shooting currently. A large set has been erected for the climax sequence. There are nearly 300 people on sets and it’s a huge challenge to manage everybody. We will be here for another three or four days. In fact, we were shooting the scenes, involving the final cricket match for the past 15 days. It’s similar to the kind of experience where a student visits his own college after he graduates (smiles).”

Also, he adds, “Venkat treats every assistant of his, equally. Even the person who joined the sets last can talk to him without any inhibitions! It feels good to be back here, where I learnt so much.”

Featuring the same ensemble cast from the prequel — Jai, Premgi Amaren, Vaibhav, Mahat Raghavendra, Vijayalakshmi, and Nitin Sathyaa among others, the film has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

“The friendship theme of the film gets extended into its making as Venkat ropes in five of his former assistants to direct the climax portion. It’s his toast to their friendship,” read a statement from the makers. The film is slated to release early next year.
