Four heroines turned down Poorna's challenging role

Though the title Savarakatthi sounds bit serious, the film is not!

Director Mysshkin, whose upcoming production and acting venture Savarakatthi (Barber's knife) is all set to hit the marquee, speaks to us as on how six heroines including Priya Mani refused to act in the female protagonist role of a hearing impaired girl who has two children while carrying one more; finally Poorna agreed.

“I was disturbed deeply by two barbers which inspired me to come out with this story. The story happens in a day and directed by my brother Adhithya who worked as my assistant for six films. Though the title Savarakatthi sounds bit serious, the film is not! It is used as a metaphor and not about barbers. It's full of life with humour and I have attempted comedy,” is how Mysshkin gets the conversation going.

While Director Raam plays Pichhai in the role of a barber and a perpetual liar, Mysshkin essays a local rowdy called Manga. “After finishing the script, I felt Raam would be apt for the lead. I didn't want to approach other heroes, as there may be lot of creative interference. Raam has given three meaningful films and I have done 10 flicks. So, I thought we could do justice to the film (smiles). There's an adage, 'What you hold tight you will lose one day' A similar message is imparted in the film.”

At any point of time did the director in you come out while shooting? “Yes many times! Both Raam and I would ask Adhithya why a certain scene is shot that way. What's the logic behind it and stuff like that! It's all done for the betterment and can't be taken as interference.”

Poorna will be seen as Raam's wife Subathra in the film. Talking about her he said, “We approached many actresses but it was Poorna who agreed to do it for the challenging role. She has done lot of hard work. She did rehearsals for 30 days. She was too keen to dub, but I was apprehensive. But she practised for 10 days and did extraordinary well. It is for the first time she is dubbing her own voice.” While most of his directorial ventures were awarded A or UA, Savarakatthi has been given U certificate from the censors.
