Velmurugan's Guinness attempt
Noted playback singer who shot to fame with his folk and Gana numbers in films like Aadukalam, Komban, Aranamani etc is making a Guinness World Record attempt with a programme titled Chennayil Oyilaattam.
Oyilaattam is traditional folk art form from Madurai area where a few men and women stand in a row with two kerchiefs and perform rhythmic steps to musical accompaniment. Velmurugan is rendering the Oyilaattam exclusive Tamil song penned by Neelakadan at the folk art event with 5,000 folk artistes taking part in it. “I along with Swarangalin Sangamam and Nirthiya Nithyalaya (who are already Guinness record holder) are making this attempt at Thirunindravur’s Jaya College on November 25. We want to bring awareness about our Tamil traditional art form in the world arena through this attempt ,” Velmurugan revealed.
Many film personalities including Nasser, GV Prakash, Thambi Ramaiah, Soori, Robo Shankar, Vaiyapuri, Aarthi, Dinesh have supported the cause. Minister for Tamil language and culture K. Pandiarajan, former Mayor M.Subramanyam, ace Vijayalakshmi Navaneethakrishnan among others would participate on the occasion.
