Film on Anitha's life gets critical acclaim

They wanted me to mute the word NEET and use the title as Neethi'. I added the A' in bracket.

A Neethi, a short film, directed by Viscom student Sriram Kanchana Thangaraj, based on the life of Dalit girl Anitha, who gave up her life due to her failure in NEET exam creating a huge uproar in Tamil Nadu, has made it to several international festivals. The movie featuring Cabrella of Kalakka Povadhu Yaaru fame playing (Dr) Anitha and veteran actor Pandian as her dad is ready for theatrical release.

Speaking to DC, the young director says, “I never thought of directing a short till I saw the disturbing news on Anitha. That’s when I decided to make a film on the subject, as such stories need to be told and bring awareness to people”.

I did have few issues with the Censor Board, saying, “They wanted me to mute the word NEET and use the title as ‘Neethi’. I added the ‘A’ in bracket.”

Sriram also did his bit of research, meeting the parents of Anitha and others in her native place before embarking on his journey with (A)Neethi which runs for 18 minutes.
