There were reports making the rounds that all was not well between Ulaganayagan’s daughter Shruti, and Gautami. Reportedly, Shruti was unhappy with Gautami’s styling in Sabaash Naidu, a movie she’s doing with her dad — and had turned down the costumes that Kamal’spartner had selected for her. The buzz is also that there was a nasty fight between Shruti and Gautami, and that a day’s shooting was called off.
Dismissing the rumours, Shruti’s spokesperson says, “Shruti is a fashion-conscious person who is followed for her distinctive style — so it didn’t come as a surprise when she was keen on her look in her film. Her role in her father’s film is that of a feisty young gal who’s grown up in Los Angeles, and uses fashion as an expression of her quirky and devil-may-care attitude. Keeping this brief in mind, Gautami brought in a set of clothes for Shruti when the look test was happening in the pre-production stage.
Styling is a combined effort between the actor, producer, and director, and taking their feedback and redoing a look is standard procedure. When the core team felt that the look needed a few changes, it was conveyed to Gautami. Being a thorough professional, Gautami understood and styled new clothes, which seemed to work better. Shruti in fact added elements from her own wardrobe to help Gautami and to really make her look pop, given that she has lived in LA herself and is someone with a very distinctive sense of style.”
