Believer in good scripts

Prasanna speaks to DC about why he prefers doing something different each time.

Love him or hate him, you can’t ignore Prasanna. He possesses a certain attitude that has earned him both admirers and detractors. But he never ceases to surprise, which makes him a cut above the rest! “After Kalyana Samayal Saadham, I didn’t accept many offers. I have always been choosy with films and I want to do something different every time. Honestly, the number of films that I do doesn’t matter. I believe that the success or failure of a single film can’t change your career. It is the journey that’s important. I am not a star; I am an actor. Also, I am a believer of good scripts and I want to explore all possible genres of acting. After all these years, people still talk about Anjathe and Muran. Though I had my own doubts on how those films would be received, it’s heartening to know that they have been accepted in a big way,” says Prasanna, who has currently wrapped up shooting for Arun Vaidyanathan’s stylish cop thriller with Arjun, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in pivotal roles.

“Whenever Arun scripts a movie, I’ll have a role in it. Such is the belief he has in me. More than being good friends, we share a good bond and comfort level. The movie revolves around the challenges that a tough cop faces in his career. I was on a weight-loss programme and lost 12 pounds for the role,” he says.

Movies have been a long and fruitful learning experience for him. “Audience expectation does remain at the back of my mind. But then I guess that is what inspires you to do better. This is an amazing time for actors because you have a vast variety of scripts on offer. Our writing has changed because the audience has changed. Good things take their own time to happen, right?” he asks us and adds, “Cinema is one of the fields where the more you learn, the less you know. When Arun approached me with the script, I liked it. Before the movie begun, we had a get-together with the rest of the crew-members and technicians. I got to meet Arjun sir and I was in awe of his charisma. He has a well-maintained physique and he looks the same even now! After seeing him, I realised I had to work on my fitness, which I am continuing till date,” he smiles.

Prasanna says he has no intention of doing multiple projects at a time because he doesn’t want to miss out on enjoying the process of filmmaking and indulging in other activities.

“I enjoy doing one film. I like finishing it, taking some time off, spending time with family,” he says.

Heaping praise on his better-half and actor Sneha, Prasanna says that without her, his life would be incomplete. “We give each other the space. So, if I am going to be absent, she takes over, and when she is busy, I do it! When you have an understanding wife like her, life becomes easy. I wish everyone had a family like mine. She’s a huge pillar of support,” he says.

When asked if we would see them together onscreen sometime in the future, this is what he has to say. “Sneha has missed a lot of things as a woman. Be it the college days, the little conversations or casual outings. But now, she’s totally enjoying her motherhood and doesn’t miss facing the camera. If something interesting comes our way, we’ll surely take it up. But right now, our son has become her priority,” he signs off.
