Don’t blame cinema for rising crimes: Kasturi
If a film lacks big names in its cast or credit list, it has become the practice to invite to the film’s promo events a few people known for their fiery speeches and sarcastic remarks so that the film would get noticed. The audio launch of Mudivilla Punnagai was one such. Directed by Clement from US, who has also bankrolled the film besides playing the lead, the promo had Velu Prabhakaran and Kasturi hogging the limelight.
At the event, Velu Prabhakaran said, “In this society, a man can marry twice and openly spend his time with both the wives. Can a woman do this? Will she be accepted? There’s no liberation for women in India. And women are portrayed as men’s sexual interest in Indian cinemas. This outlook should change. Mudivilla Punnagai has revolutionary ideas and it’s a welcome change.”
Reacting to Velu’s speech, Kasturi said, “We women don’t need the kind of freedom to have two husbands. Don’t blame cinema for the wrongs happening in the society. Stop doing this! Can anyone make a film on what happened to the little girl in Ayanavaram? Can you make a film and show what happened at Pollachi? No one will watch such films even for a day if they are made. No one in the film industry has the guts to make a film on such repulsive issues. And media has got the big responsibility to bring about a change in people’s mind. The producer/director of this film is here with a good concept and we should welcome him.”
