Though pretty faces like Samantha and Manjima Mohan were considered for Sandakozhi 2, the sequel to Vishal’s 2005 blockbuster with the same title directed by Lingusamy — the latest heartthrob Keerthy Suresh seems to be the clear winner! The makers and Lingusamy, who is wielding the megaphone for the sequel as well, were very particular they wanted a popular heroine with a homely look, who could match Meera Jasmine, the lead in the first part, for the performance oriented role.

Keerthy, whose success streak in K’town has been evident and is now much sought-after when it comes to girl-next-door characters, has been brought on board for Sandakozhi 2. When contacted, Vishal confirmed the news, saying, “Yes, Keerthy has been finalised for the female lead. We will be starting the project in February 2017.”

The team, including Raj Kiran, Yuvan Shankar Raja, and Madhie, among others, will be retained for the sequel as well. The buzz is that Sathyaraj will replace Malayalam actor/producer Lal, who played the baddie in the original.
