Udhay felt Oru Kuppai Kathai needed to be told: Aslam

...says producer Aslam, on Udhayanidhi Stalin distributing his film.

Noted choreographer Dinesh turns hero with the film, Oru Kuppai Kathai, which is based on a real-life incident. Directed by debutant Kaali Rangasami, Manisha Yadhav will be seen in a non-glam role as his pair in OKK, which is produced by director Aslam. The good news is that Udhayanidhi Stalin, who was impressed with the movie after watching it at a special screening, has come forward to release it through his home banner, Red Giant Movies.

Talking to DC, Aslam, who earlier made the film, Pagan, says, “I am making this movie for my former assistant Kaali Rangasami, who is very talented. Initially, people were not receptive to the title and were averse to it. When they listened to the crux of the story, they agreed with me that it was a fitting one.”

Dinesh, who is excited about the film, says, “It has a strong story and is different from the kind of movies we get to see these days. It beautifully talks about garbage collectors and their lives. The director has etched my character in a very different way and audience will be pleased.”

Talking about emotional scenes which are aplenty in the film, Dinesh says, “Honestly, I didn’t find them too tough. I have been a dancer in films for 25 years now, and my mentors like Raju Sundaram and Prabhudheva master have taught me to be expressive during dancing.”

On getting Udhayanidhi to release the movie, Aslam says, “Udhay sir is one person, who hails good films and does his best to help the producers. Take the case of Mynaa, which got released worldwide and received great recognition through him... Though he has been busy of late with his own ventures, I had the confidence that if he watched OKK, he would definitely lap it up. When we approached him, he allocated some time and watched it. Impressed with the content, he felt such films are needed in today’s scenario and agreed to bring it to the marquee through his home banner.” Joshua Sridhar returns to composing the music after a long gap.
