Kaala Karikalan plagiarism row: Rajinikanth, Dhanush seek more time to reply

In the petition, K. Rajashekaran submitted that the “title, not the story of Karikalan' absolutely belongedâ€to him.

Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth, ace film director Pa Ranjith and actor-producer Dhanush have sought more time to respond to a petition filed against the upcoming flick ‘Kaala Karikala’, starred by Rajinikanth.

The proprietor of GSR Vinmeen Creations Petitioner K. Rajashekaran filed a petition before a city court alleging that the film title and story belonged to him and sought directions to Rajinikanth, Pa Ranjith, producer Dhanush of Wunderbar Films Private Limited, South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) to stop filming. When the matter came up for the hearing last week, the court directed the actor and others to respond before June 15.

Counsels appearing on behalf of Rajinikanth, Pa Ranjith and others before the IV Assistant Judge, M Elangovan, they have sought more time to respond. However, none appeared on behalf of SIFCC. Later, the judge adjourned the matter to June 23 for filing their replies.

After the first schedule of the shooting in Mumbai, the film returned to the City and preparing to start the second schedule of the film shooting near Chennai soon.

In the petition, K. Rajashekaran submitted that the “title, not the story of ‘Karikalan’ absolutely belonged” to him. He registered the title “Karikalan” with the SIFCC. He narrated the story to Rajinikanth Fans Association leader Sathyanarayana.

He said another dispute over the title and not the story ‘Karikalan’ was pending in the city civil court. He sought interim junction restraining the producers, director or any other agents of them from conducting any shooting in progress of the movie.
