With some of his earlier films fairing badly at the box office, Gautham Karthik, son of yesteryear popular hero Karthik, has finally tasted success with the recently-released flick Rangoon. In a candid chat with DC, the handsome actor admits that he made wrong choices, clears airs on his relationship with Priya Anand and why he prefers a love marriage among others.

Film Journey so far
I did my entire schooling in Ooty and was not exposed to the film industry. I was rather naïve. I learnt a lot in front of the camera, but only now I have realised that there’s a lot more happening behind it as well. I also realised the importance of being punctual.

Remaking Agni Natchathiram
My dad is truly a legend and I have not watched many movies of his, except a few, including Agni Natchathiram. I will not touch it or be a part of its remake as it is a masterpiece of my dad.

Favourite scene from Karthik’s films
I like the bus scene where he gives his credit card to his ladylove in Gokulatthil Seethai.

Best heroines for appa
Revathy and Nagma!

On making wrong choices
Appa has brought me up to be  independent. He calls me thambi! Just like he came up in a hard way, he wants me to learn on my own. He never listens to my scripts... I choose them myself. I have made several wrong judgments and I’ll try and rectify them from now on. I still have a long way to go in films.

On Mani Ratnam
Kadal gave me a life and now, Rangoon has redefined it. After Mani sir, I will rate director Rajkumar as the best.

Relationship with Priya Anand
I know Priya and her family even before Kadal happened. She is my closest friend and we hang around together at coffee shops and malls. I want to be clear that I am not in a relationship with anyone. I am single!

Marriage can wait
I don’t want to get married until I turn 35. It will definitely be a love marriage — may or may not be an actress.

Dad’s political career
It doesn’t affect me in any way. I am also not interested in politics.
