Balakumaran dialogues made Baasha a blockbuster: Rajinikanth

He had also penned scripts for films such as Jeans, Mugavari, Citizen, Manmadhan and Pudhpettai.

The contribution of Tamil writer Balakumaran, who passed away on Tuesday, to Tamil films was immense. His dialogue writing ability was a huge draw for many movies and catapulted actors like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Arjun to big heights in films like Baasha, Nayakan, Guna and Gentleman.

He had also penned scripts for films such as Jeans, Mugavari, Citizen, Manmadhan and Pudhpettai. He had also won award for his contribution to Kamal Haasan’s Guna and the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for best dialogue writer for Shankar’s Kaadhalan.

The ace writer was also honored with Kalaimamani from government of Tamil Nadu. He also worked as an associate to K. Balachander’s Sindhu Bairavi and Punnagai Mannan.

After paying tribute to the writer, Superstar Rajini said, “Balakumaran is my close friend. His is an irreparable loss to literary world. His powerful dialogues were huge reasons for Baasha’s big success. I tried to rope him in for some of my other movies as well. But he politely refused saying he is inclined towards literature and spiritualism.”

Ace lyricist Vairamuthu said, “I am totally shattered when I heard about Balakumaran’s demise. Time has taken away a writer who with his untiring spirit relentlessly wrote. At a time due to technology advancement, when the reading habits in younger generations slowly started vanishing, Balakumaran’s writings pulled them back to reading. Though he is no more, his writings will remain forever.”
