A concern for environment is shared by many. ‘Maram Karunanidhi’ is one who does something about it. The nature lover plants saplings so they can grow into trees and help the environment — five lakhs of them. Affectionately called ‘Maram’ Karunanidhi in his area, he is now popular among social media users too.
Karunanidhi (55) from Sangeethamangalam village in Villupram district is a nature lover who has so far planted over 5 lakh trees in and around his native place. He had developed this habit right from a young age after he saw his home town and its surroundings becoming dry lands due to tree felling.
Karunanidhi spends most of his salary in buying tree saplings and planting them. He has distributed thousands of saplings free to people.
He even goes to work in other places on holiday and uses the extra bucks for buying saplings. His family comprises two daughters and a son. But, because of his good deeds, Karunanidhi is in financial trouble.
Actor Karthi is known for his philanthropic activities and is a goodwill ambassador for several causes including helping farmers. When the actor came to know of the financial stress on the tree-planting Karunanidhi, he donated Rs 50,000 on behalf of his Uzhavan Foundation in appreciation of his wonderful contribution to nature and posterity.
