These days, irrespective of actors who have starred in Tolly flicks — the Telugu film industry has been welcoming movies (with strong content) from other languages. Vijay Sethupathi, who enjoys a huge fan following in Tamil, is now gradually climbing the success ladder in Telugu as his films are doing good business there. The Telugu theatrical rights of his upcoming flick Puriyaadha Puthir, directed by Ranjith Jeyakodi, has been bought by one of T’town’s leading distributors, DV Cine Creations for a substantial price. The release date of the Telugu version is yet to be announced.
The movie has Gayathri in the lead and the interesting aspect is that it has been titled Pizza 2 in Telugu — although it is not a sequel to Sethupathi’s earlier hit Pizza!
Producer J.Satish Kumar, who will distribute PP in Tamil, says, “Vijay Sethupathi’s earlier Pizza did well in Telugu and he was gaining popularity in T’town with subsequent flicks. There’s huge anticipation for Puriyaadha Puthir. It will be releasing in 200 screens in Telugu. This is a remarkable feat for a Tamil actor — equivalent to how a Nani film is received in Tollywood.”
On the title being Pizza 2, he says, “Like Pizza, Puriyaadha Puthir is also a thriller and it would be easy for the people to connect with the genre. Hence, they decided to keep this title.”
