Switching roles

Arun Vijay, after playing a menacing villain, plays a cop in his next.

After portraying the powerful role of Victor in Yennai Arindhaal, Arun Vijay is yet to have a release in Tamil. Now, the actor has two films — Vaa Deal and Kuttram 23, lined-up for release this year.

Opening up to DC about his maiden production venture Kuttram 23, in which he plays the lead role, Arun Vijay says, “I play a stylish cop in this medical investigative crime thriller. We wrapped up the shoot day before yesterday at Kumbakonam in a majestic 17th century church. We had to wait for nearly two months to seek permission for shooting and the visuals have come out exceptionally well. We are planning to release the film sometime in September.”
The Thadaiyara Thaaka hero claims that Kuttram 23, directed by Arivazhagan, will have a strong and intense script. “This will be a technically sound film as we have not compromised on anything in terms of production value. Also, the screenplay will be similar to that of the director’s debut film Eeram. There have been medical thrillers in Tamil, but this flick will definitely stand out because of its core premise,” he adds.

Arun Vijay’s long pending Vaa Deal has been issued a U certificate and is gearing up to hit the screens this month. When quizzed about the delay, the actor rues, “This long delay was because of the satellite right issues. Vaa Deal is a fast paced script and a full-fledged commercial entertainer. I play a talkative, enthusiastic character. I also believe that the film would be relevant whenever it releases as the subject is fresh.” So, what’s next for the actor? — “I’ve got two to three interesting scripts in the pipeline. I haven’t finalised on one right now.”
