No proper publicity in Telugu: Govardhan Reddy

In a casual chat with DC, Govi talks about his adoration for Trisha and the film in general.

Telugu director Goverdhan Reddy aka Govi Reddy is making his Tamil debut with the bilingual Nayaki starring Trisha and Ganesh Venkatraman. In a casual chat with DC, Govi talks about his adoration for Trisha and the film in general.

Govi always wanted to make a grand debut in Tamil, and he never thought he would get to do that with his favourite leading lady Trisha — “I am a huge fan of her, and met the actress to narrate the script during the shoot of Telugu film Lion. I explained the crux of the film in five minutes and she immediately agreed.”

The director revealed that he was careful in making Nayaki stand out from other horror films, “I wanted my film to be unique, so I opted for a retro theme.

Nowadays, people treat horror films as a spoof. So, I took the emotional route which would appeal to kids and women.” Trisha’s get-up was the talk of the town when the posters released. “I did a lot of research when it came to her looks. I took inspiration of the costumes from the Hindi film Om Shanthi Om and gave them my own twist. For Ganesh, we took Elvis Presley as our reference!” he quips.

Govi also blames producer Giridhar for releasing the Telugu version without proper publicity. But he adds that the Tamil version will have many changes and keep the film’s soul intact. “He was always in a hurry and there were no social media promotions at all. I am confident that the Telugu version won’t rub off on the Tamil collections,” he concludes.
