A new lease of life for Chinni Jayanth

The Thodari actor also adds that he had to maintain a different getup for this flick.

The name Chinni Jayanth brings an instant smile on our faces. This theatre artiste and actor is known for his comic sense and his gibberish words. But, the actor is all set to showcase a different side of himself in his upcoming film, Rubaai, directed by Anbazhagan. Starring Chandran and Anandhi, this movie is slated to hit the theatres on July 14.

Speaking to DC, Chinni Jayanth says, “I play a responsible father to actress Anandhi in the movie. Rubaai’s producer Prabhu Solomon and director Anbazhagan moulded me into the role of Kunguma Raja, who owns a street food joint. The characterisation and the execution of this role impressed me so much. For this character, it is not possible to improvise on the spot. So, you have to be alert to stay in the character throughout. I observed people at the Koyembedu Market to imbibe their traits.”

The Thodari actor also adds that he had to maintain a different getup for this flick. “Prabhu Solomon asked me to grow my hair and the makers tried three looks before narrowing it down to one. At first, I thought, Anbazhagan has called to me to play the hero’s sidekick. Only after the narration, I knew this was a film that could change people’s perception of me,” he asserts.

Chinni Jayanth’s inspiration comes from legendary actors, SV Rangarao and Amitabh Bachchan for this character. “I closely followed their works and reinvented myself to play Kunguma Raja.”

When asked if people would start stereotyping him in similar roles, he reveals, “I see this role as the pinnacle of my character. If I pull this off, I can pull off any role.” He adds that actors should get involved in theatre. “You get immediate response here and it will help you hone your skills. I hope the new generation actors join the theatre scene,” he signs off.
