Pursuing his first love

Set in the green belt of Thanjavur and Kumbakonam, the film is inspired by his life incidents, says Bharani.

Except for SS Kumaran — and more recently AR Rahman — rarely have music composers wielded the megaphone. Now Bharani who has several movies to his credit as a composer, is trying his hands at direction with a film titled Ondikatta. Vikram Jagadeesh, who has played character roles in films like Thenaavattu, and Enakku Veru Engum Kilaigal Kidayadhu, has been elevated to play the hero. Neha, who did Uchathila Siva with Karan, will be portraying the female lead in this village romance.

Set in the green belt of Thanjavur and Kumbakonam, the film is inspired by his life incidents, says Bharani.

The composer-director also says that , he had come to the industry 25 years ago with the dream of directing movies. “Things didn’t work as planned and much later, SA Chandrashekar launched me as a composer in his film Periyanna. Music became my way of life and I have completed almost 50 films as a composer.”

He adds, “I thought this is the right rime to pursue my first love — direction. I took a sabbatical and completed the script which I had in mind for long.”

At the audio launch of Ondikatta, we witnessed the friendly nature of Bharani, as he mingled with several music directors, including SA Rajkumar, Sirpi, Dhina, Sathya, and Amreesh among others, who had graced the occasion.
