Sid Sriram sings for Anirudh's birthday!
With just a handful of songs, Sid Sriram has definitely carved a special place for himself in the music industry. The Thalli Pogathey singer’s soulful renditions have found a place in everyone’s playlist. And the singer’s next collaboration with hotshot composer Anirudh Ravichander might be his most exciting yet... a song to be released on the music director’s birthday this Sunday!
Speaking to DC about this song, Sid reveals, “Anirudh called me two nights ago, asking me to come over to the studio. We worked on the song for two days and recorded it. It’s a deephouse kind of track, which will be released on his birthday, on October 16.”
The track is primed to be a surprise for Anirudh’s fans this weekend — though Sid is not too forthcoming about revealing which film it will be a part of.
Out of the five songs the vocalist has sung so far, four have been for AR Rahman... day before yesterday being the occasion of Vijayadasami, Sid couldn’t have picked a better person to spend it with!
“It’s a great honour and a constant blessing to be in his presence always... especially during auspicious days like Vijayadasami — he is like my mentor. I was learning from him all day and it was great!” he smiles.
Though the last couple of years have been quite hectic, Sid claims that outside working in the Tamil playback industry, he’s been enjoying creating his own music — “I’ve been working on a solo independent album called Insomniac Season from Los Angeles. I dedicated two years of my life for this project and I used to record film songs from there and send it to India. In fact, Yennai Maatrum Kaadhaley from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan was recorded in LA! Even though I have got used to Indian time zones, there are days that I don’t get to sleep at all. That is what makes the life of a musician interesting.”
With a rich Californian accent, it is difficult to believe that Sid can pronounce Tamil words with perfection. “When I sing, I am very particular about the pronunciation. It comes from the very intense Carnatic music training that I took,” signs off the 26-year-old, who is looking forward to his first solo concert in the city, on October 14, at Lady Andal auditorium.
