With a few exceptions, adult comedies are a rarity in Tamil cinema. Now, Gautham Karthik is all set to try his luck in the genre with the film, Hara Hara Mahadevaki where actress Nikki Galrani romances him. Santhosh, a former assistant to Engeyum Eppodhum Saravanan, claims that HHMD can be watched along with the family members.
“There’s a wrong perception that adult comedy will have high glam quotient with obscene sequences. But that is not what I have conveyed in Hara Hara Mahadevaki. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable entertainer targeted at the youth audience. I have made it clear in my trailer and did not want to cheat anyone. HHMD is a story that happens in a day among eight characters,” Santhosh reveals.
Asserting more, he said, “There’s no degrading of anybody in the society. We haven’t even shown the heroine in skimpy clothes! It is a new kind of adult comedy that has emotions, love, breakups and comedy.”
On choosing Gautham Karthik, he says, “I approached 18 actors for the lead before Gautham. A few wanted me to change script, some didn’t like the title, and others were least interested while I was narrating the story. Finally I went to Gautham and he gave the go ahead. After he came on board, I gave him the bound script.”
But Santhosh states that he had only envisaged Nikki as his female lead. “I narrated only her portions and she coolly agree to be part of the project,” he quips.
