Superstar and Thala fans ecstatic

The rival fans were ecstatic as they seemed to enjoy their respective hero's movies thoroughly.

It was celebration time for the diehard fans of Superstar Rajinikanth and Thala Ajith as they thronged the theatres all over the state to catch up with the First Day First Show on Thursday of their matinee idols’ Pongal movies Petta and Viswasam.

The rival fans were ecstatic as they seemed to enjoy their respective hero’s movies thoroughly. They were all praise for their Thalaivar and Thala after watching the midnight and early morning shows.

The pouring of milk from cans, massive garlands and bursting rolls of serial crackers marked the occasion as fans lit fireworks and performed ‘milk abhishekams’ to the banners of their favourite stars. They were seen singing and dancing inside as well as outside the theatres.

While director Karthik Subbaraj and ‘Team Petta’ watched the film at Kasi Theatre, Rajinikanth’s family that included Dhanush, Latha Rajinikanth, Anirudh, his mom Lakshmi and aunt Saraswathi along with actress Trisha were present at 3.30am to catch the FDFS of Petta in Rohini Silver Screens in Koyambedu. Fans cheered and mobbed them even as they were given warm welcome by theatre authorities.

Dhanush took to his social media page and wrote his review of Petta. He tweeted, “#petta is EPIC ... superstar.. love you thalaivaaaaa ... tharamaana sambavam senjiteenga. Congrats to the whole team. @karthiksubbaraj .. big big big thank you .. we are indeed #rajinified .. Anirudh .. your best bgm work till date. Petta paraaaaaaak !!!!”

The most interesting event of the day was an unprecedented conduct of a marriage at a theatre where Petta was released. Kamatchi and Anbarasau, both hardcore fans of Rajinikanth, got married at Woodlands theatre in the city.

A stage was set where the wedding was conducted following traditional rituals and customs, with Rajini Makkal Mandram handing out the ‘thali’. Snacks and sweets were distributed to the huge turnout of fans inside and outside the theatre. A similar event took place at a screen in Thanjavur.

On the flip side, there were also reports that fans of Rajini and Ajith had a scuffle in a theatre in Koyambedu. Ajith fans were said to be angry that Viswasam did not get a special morning show, which led to the tearing up of Petta banners. With the help of police, the issue was brought under control.
