A musical tribute to Amma
For the past couple of days, the whole state of Tamil Nadu has been mourning the loss of its beloved Amma. When tributes are pouring in from all quarters, a song titled Amma Amma composed and sung in a soulful manner by Varshan in lyricist Asmin's lines was released after J Jayalalithaa's demise. The song became viral and even TV channels were heaping praises on it. Apparently, Varshan's voice which resembles Isaignani Ilaiyaraja was mistaken for the latter and people called it Ilaiyaraaja's tribute to the late CM.
On a similar note, makers of the upcoming Tamil film Konjam Konjam have dedicated a song Oh Amma... to J Jayalalithaa. Already a part of the movie, the song got a tip-to-toe pictorial makeover and was released on Tuesday, the day after her demise. The film’s director Udaysankaran says, “Like the multitude of Tamilians, the news of her demise fell on me as a shocker. In the film, this song was meant for the slot where the hero loses his mother. The hero and the people in Tamil Nadu share common feelings in that sense.”
Sung by Abhay Jodhpurkar, the verses are penned by Thenmozhi Das and composed by Vallavan. “We realised the song best fits Amma now. Our crew has worked behind creating the visuals for the song before its YouTube release. Oh Amma... was well received by Tamil people,” says the director.
