Soundarya to direct VIP 2
Dhanush has finally announced that he will be the lead in his sister-in-law Soundarya Rajinikanth’s second directorial venture, now titled Velai Illa Pattadhari 2 (VIP 2), a Tamil-Telugu bilingual. It should be noted that they recently claimed that they were looking for new faces for the film.
The movie, which was temporarily titled NEEK (Nilavukku Enmael Ennadi Kobam), was announced a few days back with much fanfare by Soundarya, who had earlier directed her Superstar-dad Rajinikanth in Kochadaiyan with Thanu, the producer of Kabali, bankrolling it.
VIP, directed by Velraj, which had Amala Paul teaming up with the national award-winner for the first time, turned out ot be one of the biggest blockbusters in Dhanush’s career. It has been learnt that there will be three heroines in this flick, and that talks are on with Kajal Aggarwal, Manjima Mohan and Sonam Kapoor.
The first two have neither denied nor affirmed the news. While story and dialogues are by Dhanush himself, Soundarya writes the screenplay and wields the megaphone.
A few days back, the Aadukalam actor tweeted, ‘Mass Announcement on Wednesday. Guess what (sic)?’, which made his followers and fans go crazy. Many speculated that the announcement would be about his production venture with father-in-law Rajinikanth.
Come Wednesday, and he has uploaded a video announcing the new film, titled VIP 2, with the tagline ‘Raghuvaran (which is his character name in the original version), is back’.
The only thing which is puzzling, is that the actor has used the theme number of Velai Illa Pattadhari in the video, which was originally scored by Anirudh — while they have officially roped in Sean Roldan for the new version. However, sources say that Anirudh has been credited for the tag just for the racy BGM of the film, and will not be working on the album of VIP 2.
Going by the tweet, it is apparent that the character Raghuvaran, will be retained in the sequel. However, it is unclear whether the rest of the roles including Amala Paul will be part of the sequel. The makers are yet to announce whether the story of the first part will have any relevance to VIP 2 or if it will be just a ‘spiritual sequel.’
