Manie’s dream to act in Tamil films comes true
Actor Manie, who has the credit of being the first south Indian actor to make it big in the Bengali film industry and won an award for his debut Bengali film Nirmok, is being launched in Tamil by Rajaraja. The director is known for his dialogue writing skills in hundreds of Tamil dubbed flicks and who has also directed a few movies including Ilavattam in K'town.
DC caught up with Manie who was in the city for his photo shoot. “I started my film career with a Kannada film Desi where I played a very complex character, something like what Vikram sir did in Sethu. It was received well and I got critical acclaim. Nirmok in Bengali had a rustic genre and its Bengali dialect was very different. It fetched me 'Bengal Excellence Award' for my performance. Sharing the dais with legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar while receiving National Excellence Award in 2014 was the biggest moment for me.”
Although I am busy with Hindi and Bengali film commitments, my heart was always in Kollywood being a Tamilian, he says. “Yes, finally, my passion for Tamil cinema has brought me here. The untitled film is an intellectual thriller. I play an electronic toys engineer and how a certain incident turns his life upside down and how he avenges the wrongdoers forms the crux.”
