Vellai Pookal will be trendsetter: Vivekh

The film is produced and directed by a group of techies from Seattle.

Ace actor Vivekh, who is looking forward to his upcoming suspense thriller Vellai Pookkal, says the film is one of the significant movies of his career. Speaking at the promo event the actor said, “Uthiri Pookal by legendary filmmaker Mahendran (who is not with us now) was a trendsetter in Tamil cinema. I guess Vellai Pookal will also create an impact and will be a trendsetter in terms of its making style. Director Vivek Ilangovan has screen played in a riveting manner.”

The film is produced and directed by a group of techies from Seattle, including Dhigha Sekaran, Varun, Ajay Sampath and Vivek Elangovan who have come together out of their passion for the art of cinema.

Speaking about how he was initially hesitant to accept the role, Vivekh said, “The unit is totally new to me. When I heard the script over the phone they told me the film is entirely set in Seattle. Joking about the city he said, ‘I was clueless about where Seattle is (smiles). Initially I suggested Sathyaraj who would be apt for the role of investigative cop in terms of his physique and stature. That character is a serious one who seldom speaks and acts more. But the director told me people would have seen Sathayaraj sir many times in a similar role. People would predict the next move easily. If it comes from a comedian like Vivekh, it will be a surprise factor, which sounded convincing to me.”

At the meet, Vivekh revealed that it was he who suggested actor Charlie for the role of a retired bank official in the movie. “Charlie has got a great performer in him. He is a bundle of talents. Many times he has been relegated to comical roles. He has done a great job in the movie.”

Ask him why the title is in white and red and what’s the film all about, he pauses before saying, “Vellai Pookkal refers to the flower dandelion, found aplenty in Seattle. Poo denotes softness. The red here could be anything — blood, anger, irritation over society, revenge, it will give an answer to the disgusting and outrageous happenings we are facing in the present scene, which gives nightmares to parents.” Though Vivekh tried to maintain the suspense factor, we could infer that VP could be dealing with the topical issue of children being kidnapped and sexually abused.
