Kadhalum... is close to my heart: Madonna Sebastian
Madonna Sebastian, who garnered admirers with her debut in Malayalam film Premam, is all set to enthrall the Tamil audience now! Director Nalan Kumarasamy, known for his cult classic Soodhu Kavvum, is launching the pretty actress in K’town in his second venture Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum. The interesting aspect is that she’s sharing screen space with none other than the hot and happening star Vijay Sethupathi. In an exclusive interview with DC, the vivacious girl speaks about her co-star Sethupathi, how she was not keen on donning the greasepaint initially, her love for singing and why she wouldn’t adhere to a conventional glam image.
“I am sort of in a mixed feeling. It is quite nice to make my foray into Tamil — especially because of the theme of the film, as well as the character that was offered to me,” she begins with a smile. I play Yazhini, a girl who arrives in the city with an ambition of getting into the IT industry. Meanwhile, she meets Kathir, essayed by Vijay Sethupathi, who has a totally contrasting background. It’s a beautiful film and very close to my heart,” she adds.
On her co-star Sethupathi, she says, “Initially, we were quite busy with our work, and hardly had time to interact on sets — I was not familiar with the language either. Despite that, we shared a great comfort level. Instead of getting scared sharing screen space with a talented actor like him, I respected him for his skills and learnt a lot.” On Nalan choosing Madonna for Kadhalum... even before he watched Premam, she says, “Yes, I heard. He called me for an audition after Alphonse Putharen suggested my name. I thank him for the trust he had in me for the powerful role,” she says.
Moving on to other topics, we saw an instant glow in her eyes when we mentioned singing! “I am a trained Carnatic vocalist — singing has been a part of my life right from my childhood, and will always be with me,” she smiles. Not just singing, she’s trying to get better at languages too. Madonna says that she is learning Tamil and try to dub for herself in the future. “More than dubbing my own movies, I hope to learn Tamil because I love the dialect very much — it is a beautiful language,” she concludes, adding that she would always enjoy playing characters like Celine, that last in one’s memory.
