National karate champ Khaushik debuts in Veeradevan
Real-life sports personalities donning the grease paint is not new to Tamil cinema. The latest one to join the bandwagon is Khaushik, a national-level karate champion, who debuts with a rural subject titled Veeradevan. Directed by Veeran Selvarasu, the film has a Tamil girl Meenalochini from Madurai, making her debut as the female lead. Talking about the film Veeran says, “The film highlights about why the villages are considered to be the backbone of our country. The countryside still holds our values. Family relationships get influenced by fashions, modernity and trends and slowly lose their cultural values. The film has a mix of action, sentiment, romance and comedy.” He adds, “The story is set in and around Madurai and Usilampatti. We wanted a simple looking girl, who is well-aware of the local ethnicity and slang. Hence we chose Meenalochini as the lead.”
