Chennai-28 II will be a tribute to the late CM: Venkat Prabhu

The director claims that his film will be a tribute to late CM J Jayalalitha. Speaking to DC, Venkat Prabhu says, “I wanted to push the film to a later date after the sad demise of our beloved CM, and also there was a seven-day mourning announced. However, we could not do so as everything was finalised a few weeks back. Big films like S III are getting released in the coming weeks. Also, there was availability of theatres, and we were told that the seven-day mourning period is for government-related functions and not for the entertainment industry.”

He adds, “I can vouch that Chennai-28 II will bring relief to audiences in the present situation. It is light-hearted and a good remedy for everyone to get back to normalcy. The climax cricket match — which we shot for 12 days — will build tension up akin to when viewers watch a match live! That will be the highpoint of the film.”

Many adored Jai who played Raghu in the prequel. The actor says, “When our captain Venkat Prabhu told me about the reunion, I was the first one to go crazy. Chennai 28 gave me an identity as an actor. I am happy to re-join my team, especially with my close buddy Seenu (Premgi) — the greatest fielder of our Sharks team in the film!”
