Sivakarthikeyan praised for Kanaa success

Physically challenged Tamil Nadu cricketers were also honoured on the occasion.

Aishwarya Rajesh, who is on a career high after her critically acclaimed film Kanaa on women’s cricket turned out to be a massive hit, took a dig at bogus success meets of films in the Tamil industry. At the success meet of Kanaa that was conducted in a unique manner, the dusky actress said “Kanaa was initially released in fewer number of screens, but slowly word of mouth on the good content spread and the screen count became bigger and today we celebrate its success. This is the ‘true’ victory. But, a few in the industry simply celebrate success irrespective of whether they achieved success or not.”

Actor Sivakarthikeyan, who produced the film, sensed that Aishwarya’s speech would lead to controversy and immediately asked her to get down from the dais even as the huge gathering was giving a thunderous applause to the actress. Aishwarya also thanked Siva and director Arunraja Kamaraj for having faith in her and giving her the plum role.

Sivakarthikeyan announced that a part of the profits — the film also touched the subject of farmer’s plight — would be spent for the welfare of farmers. “I wouldn’t call what I am saying is to help Arunraja Kamaraj. It is my duty and responsibility as he and his team have given me a double delight with a successful project. Many say Aishwarya Rajesh will win the national award for Kanaa. If that happens, I will be the happiest person. Sathyaraj sir has been a part of important films in my career — Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam was a turning point in my career and now Kanaa is my maiden production. I wish he would be part of all my production ventures,” he said.

Heaping laurels on Siva, Sathyaraj replied, “Kanaa victory belongs to the society. But for Siva’s presence, Kanaa wouldn’t have got this much attention. Sivakarthikeyan is to Kanaa what Aamir Khan was to Taare Zameen Par.” Physically challenged Tamil Nadu cricketers were also honoured on the occasion.
