Collaborating for a cause
With Pongal just around the corner, musician-turned-actor GV Prakash has come out with a new single titled Kombu Vacha Singamda. Singer/lyricist Arunraja Kamaraj has penned the lyrics for the song. The proceeds raised through this will be used for struggling farmers’ families.
Speaking to DC exclusively, GV Prakash says, “I have always supported jallikattu and distressed farmers.” He adds, “When Arunraja and I met recently, we thought of creating a single track and dedicating it to jallikattu. And when we told the label (the company that is releasing the song) that we are planning to give the revenue which is generated through downloading to suffering farmers, they gladly agreed”.
“Kombu Vacha Singamda has a motivational theme encouraging men to support our traditional and valorous sport of jallikattu. The beat is very local and most part of it is voice-based,” Prakash states.
It starts with the line ‘Jallikattu idhu jallikattu, dhil irundha vandhu mallu kattu...’, and is rendered by both GV and Arunraja. “The single will be released on Pongal day and depending on its reception, we want to bring out a video version of the song,” concludes Prakash.
