I want to make films with a purpose: Venkata Krishna Roghanth
Venkata Krishna Roghanth has roped in actress Kaniha, who was last seen in Mani Ratnam's O Kadhal Kanmani in a cameo, for his upcoming Vijay Sethupathi starrer Yaadhum Ooore Yaavarum Kelir for a power packed role.
A musical thriller, it has an ensemble cast of Megha Akash who plays VSP's pair, director Magizh Thirumeni as antagonist, Vivekh and Mohan Raja in a cameo.
Speaking to DC in an exclusive, Roghanth says, "It is too early to divulge anything about Kanika's role. All I can reveal is that she portrays a crucial character and is instrumental in taking forward the story right from the start.
He adds, "I really admire her dedication, focus and stunning performance. Often she is in and out of Tamil films. I feel such a talented actress should do more films in Tamil."
Talking about the title, which is a famous quote of renowned Tamil philosopher Kaniyan Pungundranar, he says, "The theme of the film is universal, I suggested Yaavarum Kelir as the title. It was Vijay Sethupathi, who suggested we go with Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir, a brilliant saying which expresses the oneness of humanity."
Like his mentor and national award winner SP Jananathan, Roghanth also touches a social issue of international importance. "Yes, though it is a musical thriller and an entertainer, the film addresses a worldwide human problem and hence everyone will connect with it. Though a commercial flick, I want to make films with a purpose."
